Researching and Gathering Information

The third step in the academic exploration process is researching and gathering information.

In this step, you have a firm understanding of who you are and what major options are available to you, but you might be asking:

  • What classes are required for this major?
  • I'm interested in a few majors. How do I choose?
  • What career options are available for these majors?
  • Will these majors require math-intensive classes?
  • Will these majors require writing-intensive classes?

Note: If you identify with the questions above, let your academic advisor know that, even though you may have a major declared, you're still researching before making a final decision.

What resources can help you navigate Step Three?

Read the Undergraduate Catalog to learn what classes are offered and required for each major. Click on each major to learn more.

Learn about specific class requirements, including what assignments would be required and whether the course is math- or writing-intensive, by looking at past syllabi on the HB 2504 website.

What Can I Do with My Major?

Whether you’re exploring majors or searching for information about your chosen field, this website will help you connect majors to careers.
